Klis Fortress ~ Rizman Winery ~ Ston ~ Trsteno Arboretum

Day 9

Booked a car to take us from Split to Dubrovnik with a few site seeing stops along the way. On the way out of Split the first stop was Klis Fortress. This is one of the many Game of Thrones filming locations we visited on this trip, first of the day.

Second stop was Lunch at Rizman Winery. As you know we like to try the local grapes and wines along our travels. We had a beautiful view on the patio the only food paring we did not care for was the sardines, but we tried them! Our favorite wines were the Emilia Makvazija and the Cabernet Saviougn. Cord really liked the Grasevina Kravata as well for those of you that prefer dry. Unfortunately there was construction next door during our visit as they build more space, so the atmosphere was noisy, but I would imagine it is normally much more peaceful. The winery even gave us a bottle for our honeymoon to take home on the house!

Next stop was Ston known for their oyster farms and Croatia's version of the Great Wall. We worked off our lunch by climbing to the highest point allowable on the wall. We did not take it all the way to Mali Ston as we did not have time, but we got a good view of both bays on each side of the peninsula. He hiked back down to visit the moat surrounded fort and try a sample of the local delicacy.

Just in time for sunset our last stop enroute to Dubrovnik was another Game of Thrones filming location: Trsteno Arboretum. Some beautiful landscaping and old sundails as well as a fountain tribute to Poseidon. Great stop but probably not worth the trek out if you are oly staying in Dubrovnik.
